Ooh wee, babe, gonna crash the gate,
Til it breaks this time.
I know you can hardly wait,
To draw the battle lines.
The city sleeps, we wait impatient for the sun to rise.
At daybreak, the rounds and mortar drown the battle cries.
You don’t need to know my name,
This is war.
Draw the lines and play my game,
This is war.
We’ve got the tack, no turning back,
The street is ours, tonight.
No one can stand when we attack,
And God is on our side.
At my feet, a fallen soldier I don’t recognize,
Somebody’s son, lyin’ in the rain, with open eyes.
You don’t need to know my name,
This is war.
Draw the lines and play my game,
This is war.
How long, til it’s over,
Til we live again?
How long til it’s over,
Do we wait?
Send me your young, I’ll save a space,
On the battle lines.
Heroes are made here, everyday,
In desperate time.
You don’t need to know my name,
This is war.
Draw the lines and play my game,
This is war.
How long, til it’s over,
Til we live again?
How long til it’s over,
Do we wait?

JH&TSW’s songwriting prowess is in full gear on their latest album, All Horns & Halos. As the title might suggest, from the opening track, “Where I Am”, an 80’s-laden anthem, with it’s ode to sympathy and hope, you get the gumption that you’re about to partake in a 47 minute aural journey through a heaven and hell party. Some faves so far are Love’s On Trial, The Devil Beats His Wife, and Throwing Shadow, but really the whole album is growing on me more with each listen! John Loshuertos
